چکیده
Hydroxide-exchange-membrane water electrolysis (HEMWE) is an emerging hydrogen-production pathway that combines many advantages of incumbent alkaline (AWE) and proton-exchange-membrane (PEMWE). Advancement in HEMWE has been accelerated with the development stable conductive hydroxide exchange membranes (HEMs) a more comprehensive understanding gas-evolving kinetics. However, performance durability without supporting electrolytes (SELs) remain inferior to PEMWE AWE little known about role impact SELs. This study investigates effects SELs used as anolyte solutions HEMWEs including cation-type, anion-type, SEL conductivity pH, presence carbonates increased cation/OH ? ratios on cell voltage stability. We report our findings (i) potential high-frequency resistance did not correlate conductivity, (ii) cation-type influences at low current densities (<50 mA cm ?2 ) predicted by half-cell measurements, (iii) ratio causes overpotentials, (iv) are exchanged HEM but removed via self-purging high density. Overall, this concludes concentrated KOH still best SEL.

Polymer Electrolyte Membranes for Water Photo-Electrolysis
Water-fed photo-electrolysis cells equipped with perfluorosulfonic acid (Nafion® 115) and quaternary ammonium-based (Fumatech® FAA3) ion exchange membranes as separator for hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions were investigated. Protonic or anionic ionomer dispersions were deposited on the electrodes to extend the interface with the electrolyte. The photo-anode consisted of a large band-gap ...
متن کاملElectrochemistry Modeling of Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) Water Electrolysis for Hydrogen Production
An electrochemistry model was developed to analyse the J-V characteristics of a Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) water electrolyser for hydrogen production. The Butler-Volmer equation and water transport characteristics through electrolyte membrane were employed to simulate the electrode activation overpotential and membrane ohmic overpotential, respectively. The modeling results are found to agr...
متن کاملElectrolysis of water on oxide surfaces
In this paper, density functional theory (DFT) calculations are performed to analyze the electrochemical water-splitting process producing molecular oxygen (O2) and hydrogen (H2). We investigate the trends in the electro-catalytic properties of (110) surfaces of three rutile-type oxides (RuO2, IrO2, and TiO2). The two first of these oxide anodes show lower O2-evolving over-potentials than metal...

IT has been shown by McCutcheon & Lucke (1928) that in glucose solutions isotonic with 40 per cent sea water, the eggs of the sea-urchin Arbada absorb twice as much water as they do from 40 per cent sea water, and that this increased imbibition is prevented by a small concentration of calcium ion in the glucose solution, even in the absence of the other cations of sea water. Pantin (1931a) show...
